What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Waste Collector-Waste Division position at City of Kenosha?
Seasonal Waste Collectors assist in the collection of waste materials and recyclables under the direction of the Waste Division of the Public Works Department of the City of Kenosha. This is a seasonal, temporary position scheduled throughout the year for up to eight (8) months based on the needs of the City and the availability of funds. Work is typically scheduled for forty (40) hours per week and may include evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Collects garbage, non-combustible waste materials, and recyclable items and disposes of same at appropriate sites. Seasonal Waste Collectors may be assigned work at the drop-off bulk waste, recycling and/or yard waste sites.
- Performs routine and general maintenance (i.e. sweeping, mopping, shoveling, etc.) duties within City buildings, grounds, and other public areas.
- Snow plowing/removal during winter 2nd or 3rd shift as needed.
- Operates automated side loaders and partially automated side loaders.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must be age 18 or older.
- High school diploma, GED or HSED.
- Valid regular driver's license with good driving record.
- Must have temporary CDL permit with no restrictions for air brakes prior to start date.
- Minimum of one (1) year of work experience which required the ability to repetitively lift 40 pounds or more, on a regular basis, or similar experience (as provided in work history).
- Minimum of one (1) year of work experience physically working outdoors in adverse/extreme weather conditions (i.e. cold, heat, snow, rain, etc.).
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check, motor vehicle record review and post-offer drug screen.
- This position participates in the City's Drug & Alcohol Free Workplace Policy and is subject to the random testing program.
- Working knowledge of truck operation and maintenance and how to operate said vehicles efficiently and safely.
- Working knowledge of occupational work hazards and safety precautions.
- Ability to lift up to forty (40) pounds on repetitive basis.
- Ability to read maps and follow written and verbal directions.
- Ability to perform manual labor under extremely adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to work independently and also as a team.
- Ability to keep records and make reports.
- Ability to get along well with others.
- Ability to serve the public to their satisfaction.
- Ability to handle a reasonable amount of stress.
- Work involves the regular and sustained performance of heavy physical tasks such as walking over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stooping, working in confined spaces, and lifting or carrying moderately heavy (40 lbs.) items and occasionally very heavy (100 lbs.) items.
- Work is routinely performed in adverse environmental conditions.
- Duties require visual, color, depth, texture, sound, and odor discrimination.
- Possession of a valid commercial driver's license within 60 days of hire. Will train on the job.
