Job Summary
Perform emergency medical services for the community. Respond to emergency calls of injured or sick patients. Provide Inter-facility transfers to and from hospitals, nursing homes or other requested locations while providing medical care as needed. Assist in the maintenance of equipment and facilities and perform minor administrative functions.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities

- Performs emergency medical services by responding to emergency calls, performing basic and advanced life support, providing inter-facility transfer locally and regionally, restocking, decontamination, and performing other duties as necessary to save lives.
- Conducts public tours of facilities, providing public education regarding EMS and safety, maintaining continuing education and physical training.
- Performs light building and vehicle maintenance duties.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KnowledgeKnowledge of department rules, regulations policies and procedures.General knowledge of EMS prehospital care for medical and trauma patients, equivalent to DSHS certification level.Knowledge of Department of State Health Services (DSHS) codes and rules related to DSHS certification level.Knowledge of City maps and locations of streets and response routes.SkillsSkill in operating and driving an ambulance in a safe, proficient, and professional manner during non-emergency and emergency responses.
Skill in the administration of emergency medical techniques, patient assessment and the use of specialized equipment.Skill in oral, verbal and written communications.Skill in use of a computer and proficiency with MS Office and other field related software.AbilitiesAbility to react quickly and calmly in emergencies and to direct the work of coworkers in emergency situations.
Ability to inspect, use, operate and care for EMS equipment, equivalent to DSHS certification level.Ability to maintain BLS certification.Ability to swim proficiently and to demonstrate such in a swim test.Ability to gain physical strength and agility sufficient to perform prolonged and arduous work under adverse conditions.Ability to participate in the fire department's physical fitness program.Ability to work an irregular schedule, including weekends, evenings and holidays.Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance.Other CharacteristicsEnsure standards that meet or exceed the NAEMT Code of Ethics;
