The City of Key Colony Beach Public Works Foreman Job Description
Employment at Keys Colony Beach is an exciting and rewarding opportunity to work within a close-knit, active community. The Foreman position is hands-on and works alongside the Public Works crew while assisting the Public Works Department Head in accomplishing department objectives and goals. The foreman is responsible for overseeing and working with a crew of three workers within the Public Works Department, coordinating daily operations, assigning tasks, and ensuring the safe and efficient maintenance and repair of public infrastructure such as roads, right of ways, stormwater systems, parks, and facilities.
Salary Range
- $75,000.00 - $85.000.00 (based on experience)

Key responsibilities may include:
- Crew Supervision:
Leading and directing a team of workers, assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and providing on-the-job training.
- Project Planning and Scheduling:
Developing work plans, prioritizing tasks, estimating project timelines, and coordinating with other departments.
- Maintenance and Repair Operations:
Overseeing routine maintenance activities such as facility maintenance, street cleaning, pothole patching, tree trimming, and irrigation system maintenance and repair.
- Equipment Management:
Ensuring proper operation, maintenance, and safety of the city’s vehicles and machinery, including backhoes, zero-turn mowers, tractors, chainsaws, hedgers, leaf blowers, trash pumps, and generators.
- Safety Compliance:
Enforcing safety protocols, conducting safety inspections, and addressing safety concerns on the job site.
- Emergency Response:
Responds to after-hours, when needed, for infrastructure repairs or weather-related emergencies.
- Technical Knowledge:
Strong understanding of construction practices, maintenance procedures, and landscaping.
- Leadership Skills:
Ability to motivate and oversee a team, delegate tasks, and resolve conflicts.
- Mechanical Aptitude:
Knowledge of operating and maintaining various heavy equipment and machinery, as well as carpentry, plumbing, electrical and masonry skills and experience.
- Problem-Solving Skills:
Ability to identify issues, assess situations, and implement solutions on the job site.
- Physical Fitness:
Capability to perform physically demanding tasks outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Typical Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Several years of experience in public works (or relatable) construction, maintenance and landscaping experience.
- Supervisory experience in a related field
