To perform a wide variety of drainage maintenance activities, to include repair and cleaning of drainage infrastructure and public rights-of-ways; performs a variety of routine drainage maintenance field activities.
Essential Duties
Core Competencies
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Erects forms and reinforcement, and pours and finishes concrete.
Assists with needed repairs of all drainage infrastructure, gutters, pipes, and earthen and lined channel sections.
Manually unloads and places construction materials.
Trims grasses and woody-stem vegetation, and processes or loads trimmings.
Maintains tools and equipment associated with assigned job duties.
Transports personnel, materials, and equipment to and from job site using light-duty equipment.
Clears debris from drainage infrastructure and public rights-of-way.
Properly manages debris removed from drainage infrastructure and public rights-of-ways.
Conducts safety and maintenance checks on assigned equipment and machinery.
Performs preventative maintenance on all assigned equipment.
Loads and unloads material for transportation to and from the job site.
Performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs on small and large equipment.
Operates a variety of small equipment and hand tools essential to drainage and rights-of-way maintenance.
Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in the Department and City attendance policies and procedures; ensures all behaviors comply with the City’s Personnel Rules and Regulations; possesses and maintains a valid driver's license, if required, and comply with City of Killeen driving policy accordingly.
Performs other duties, as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Various equipment used in drainage maintenance will include, but not necessarily limited to, motor vehicle, mowers, trimmers, jackhammers, pneumatic packers, concrete saws, machine floats, chain saws, pole saws, shovels, rakes, hoes, other hand tools, safety equipment, maps, and water sampling & testing equipment as required
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work is performed primarily out-of-doors, on or inside of various forms of equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell.
The employee must frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration.

Required Minimum Qualifications
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Graduation from high school or equivalent, preferred.
- Six (6) months of experience, preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to sustain effective working relationships with other employees and supervisors;
- Ability to complete assigned tasks;
- Ability to observe proper safety precautions;
- Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment;
- Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
- Must have a valid Texas driver’s license by date of hire.
- Must have or acquire within two (2) months of date of hire all basic level National Institute Management System (NIMS) certifications as required by the City.
