Job Description
GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs a variety of sanitary cleaning tasks for the care and maintenance of the City of Killeen’s buildings.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Employee has no supervisory responsibilities.
Essential Duties
Cleans and disinfects office areas, public meeting areas, elevators, locker room and restroom facilities including fixtures, sinks, mirrors, drinking fountains, urinals and toilets; replenishes supplies in restrooms.
Sweeps, dust mops, mops, burnishes, strips, and scrubs floors, as well as applies floor finishes and sealers.
Vacuums carpets and floor mats, cleans carpet spots, bonnets carpet, and extracts soil from carpets.
Removes trash, relines containers, and disinfects containers in accordance with established procedures, collects recyclable items, and picks up litter around buildings and grounds and cleans outdoor furniture and grounds.
Cleans spills and disposes of hazardous materials in accordance with MSDS instructions.
Dusts, polishes, and cleans facility fixtures, furniture, woodwork, light fixtures, venetian blinds and other equipment.
Cleans glass windows and doors, cleans walls, and all other building surfaces.
Requests supplies as needed for the assigned facility, prepare supplies list, carries and moves supplies from building to building.
Maintains a safe entry into buildings (i.e. applies salt or sand on wet or icy areas in front of the entry doors, etc.).
Inspects and maintains assigned custodial equipment and small tools for proper operating condition.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Six (6) months of related experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance.
- Working knowledge of equipment and supplies used to do minor repairs.
- Some knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.
- Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.
- Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule.
- Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships.
Supplemental Information
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must obtain and maintain a Texas Driver’s License within 90 days of hire.
Must adhere to assigned work schedule as outlined in city and department attendance administrative policies and procedures.
Must be able to work from 4:00 am until 12:30 pm on a regular basis.
Must be able to work occasional evening or weekend shifts.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate and control equipment, which requires balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear.
The employee must frequently lift and /or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate.
