Job Description
Our seasonal employees are a group of community members that we cherish! During the summer season the family and friends from our local community become a bigger group that Recreation Services supports, these employees work with passion for the enjoyment of our Community Members. These employees are sometimes the first impression of all programs that we offer at Recreation Services! We are excited to support the Aquatic Division to include the pool and water park, and activities in the Park and Grounds Division. Although we only have these employees for a short time, many see other opportunities to promote within the City, or there are what we call our loyal “returners” each year! The pay as listed for these positions, supports that sentiment, those that return to employment receive higher offers for hourly salary if hired. General Purpose
To perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of buildings, grounds and parks.
Essential Duties
Mows and maintains park and open space areas such as baseball and soccer fields; cleans and maintains tennis courts and nets; maintains sprinkler systems.
Inspects, washes, and performs routine maintenance of park drinking fountains and restrooms.
Sweeps, washes, paints and repairs or replaces park tables and slabs.
Performs minor semi-skilled interior building maintenance such as painting, plumbing, carpentry, and other unskilled and semi-skilled trades work.
Assists with planting lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowers.
Carries out the seeding, fertilizing, top dressing, soil conditioning, watering, and the pest and weed control of parks and open spaces.
Performs custodial work such as changing light bulbs and fluorescent tubes, sweeping floors, vacuuming carpets; moping; shampooing and steam cleaning carpets; buffing non-carpeted areas; dumping garbage and relining cans with liners; and other duties as required.
Collects and disposing of solid waste from buildings and grounds; picks up litter from premises.
Assists in setting up and taking down equipment for various park and recreation programs; prepares facilities for park and recreation program use.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Must be 16 years of age by date hire.
Must be available to work between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Supplemental Information
Must have a working knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance.
Must be able to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule.
The position requires the ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
Equipment Operated:
Lawn and landscaping equipment, including mowers, edgers and weed trimmers; janitorial equipment including floor buffers, steam cleaner, carpet cleaners, washers, vacuums, mops, brooms and dusting equipment. Safety equipment as required.
