Job Description
Manage the day to day activities of the Sex Offender Registration Unit in accordance with department policies and procedures. Perform a variety of duties to include research, registration, and maintenance of all aspects of sex offender registration.
Essential Duties
Responsible for developing and maintaining local current sex offender database in accordance with Chapter 62, Code of Criminal Procedures.
Attends conferences/meetings and maintains membership in professional organizations to keep abreast of changes in the law regarding sex offender registration.
Develop and coordinate training in sex offender registration.
Request and evaluate criminal background checks for all Sex Offenders to ensure that all violations are listed on the initial registration forms.
Responsible for maintaining current Texas Sex Offender Registration records: CR-35 form, address update, employer update, vehicle update, pre-release notification, photo, fingerprint card and expired INT 14 blue receipt cards.
Work directly with the Sex Offender Compliance officer to ensure that all Sex Offenders are within compliance. Provide necessary documents to assist with filing the Failure to Comply with Registration Requirements.
Present testimony in courts regarding sex offender registration history and non-compliance.
Responsible for the initial intake Registering Sex Offender’s registration: check information on CR-35 form for accuracy.
Verifying registering Sex Offender’s driver’s license lists the same address as the CR-35 form.
Responsible for completing registering Sex Offender’s fingerprint cards.
Research and collect appropriate court documentation for registering out of state, out of country, and military convicted registrants.
Responsible for the collection and submission of DNA samples to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Educate the registering Sex Offender as to the registration laws. Have registering offender read and sign the laws. Provide a copy to the Sex Offender.
Respond to any written request from the public in regards to registered Sex Offenders.
Fill out school notification for public and private schools if victim is under age 17.
Responsible for the creation and maintenance of a city map indicating registered sex offender’s key map locations.
Establish communications with parole, probation, juvenile probation, and juvenile parole.
Establish communications with other police department and sheriff department sex registration units in Texas.
Establish communications with out of state sex offender registering law enforcement agencies.
Perform other duties as assigned.
May serve as a member of various employee committees.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Two-year college degree or 60 college semester hours from an accredited college or university; and
Two years experience in sex offender registration
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Supplemental Information
1. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and Windows Operating systems;
2. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
3. Some knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment;

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Must pass a thorough background investigation.
2. Must have a valid driver's license by date of hire.
3. Must obtain and maintain a Texas Driver's License within 60 days of hire.
