What are the responsibilities and job description for the Crime Analyst position at City of Killeen?
Performs strategic and tactical crime analysis to support law enforcement efforts to reduce a crime, the fear of crime and enhance public safety. Assists with and conducts strategic and tactical crime analysis to provide actionable intelligence products to the department.
Assist with operational and administrative crime analysis.
Use of Geographic Information System (GIS) programs in strategic and tactical crime analysis to create easily understood and actionable intelligence products.
Receives incoming calls, determines nature and urgency of calls, and coordinates appropriate response.
Establishes and maintains records systems using moderately independent judgment.
Maintains and enters data into data base system.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a degree in sociology, mathematics, statistics or a closely related field;
One (1) year of experience; or,
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment;
2. Ability to use Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Office programs.
3. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;
4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers and supervisors;
5. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions;
6. Ability to perform routine mathematic calculations;
7. Ability to analyze and categorize statistical data;
8. Ability to demonstrate proficiency in GIS Crime Mapping;
9. Ability to demonstrate proficiency in police database operations;
10. Ability to appropriately present information to individuals and/or groups.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must pass a thorough background investigation.
Must have a valid driver's license by date of hire.
Must obtain and maintain a Texas Driver's License within 60 days of hire.No licenses or certifications are required. Must pass complete background investigation and polygraph examination.
