What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Maintenance Worker position at City of Kings Mountain?
GENERAL DEFNITION OF WORK:
Performs routine semi-skilled work in assisting in the repair and maintenance of City buildings and equipment; does related work as required.
Work is performed under the immediate supervision of a skilled maintenance worker.
TYPICAL TASKS:
Assists a skilled worker in making electrical, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and related repairs and installations;
Helps in various ways, such as passing tools and materials, does preparatory work, performing trades tasks as directed and cleaning after work;
Uses standard tools and equipment of the trades;
Operates truck to and from jobs and in running errands for skilled workers;
Cleans and cares for tools and equipment;
Performs independently the more routine tasks in making building and mechanical repairs in accordance with instructions;
Performs general laboring and custodial tasks, such as cutting grass and cleaning buildings;
Performs related tasks as required.
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Some knowledge of the materials, equipment, tools, and techniques of one of the standard
Building or mechanical trades; ability to acquire a knowledge within a reasonable time period of the methods and techniques of a standard trade; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to acquire skill in the use of tools and equipment of a standard trade.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of the eleventh grade and some experience with the use of common hand tools and equipment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and hearing.
Must be able to stand for most of the work day.
Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently; and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid appropriate drivers license issued by the State of North Carolina.
