UTILITY LOCATOR
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
As a utility line locator, you would be responsible for completing all assigned tasks by their scheduled due date. Completing tickets consists of accurately locating and marking existing underground utilities, specifically electric and gas utilities, taking clear photos of your markings, and entering needed notes of the locate into our system.
TYPICAL TASKS:
Identify and map location and depth of utilities such as water, sewer, gas, cable, fiber, and electric lines
Document interactions, site information, and notes into system
Communicate with citizens, engineers, and management
Use a variety of techniques to measure utilities
Be able to follow driving directions
Be able to walk 3 to 5 miles a day if needed carrying equipment
Ability to adapt to adverse situations and work in extreme outdoor weather
Ability to learn new devices and changing laws
Keep immediate supervisor/manager aware of any issues or problems in the field
Correctly, safely, and efficiently locate underground utilities, including telecommunications, electric power, cable, gas, water, and sewer system
Thoroughly search for underground utilities in a designated area, accurately marking location and completing
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Experience is preferred! 1 to 2 years line locating experience

Must have/maintain a valid Driver’s license
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug screening

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and considerable experience in utility locating
PHYSICAL REQURIEMENTS:
Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs
Must be able to lift and carry up to 80 pounds and push and/or pull 50 lb. loads at a time
Must be able to stand and walk for up to 8 hours/daily
Must be able to climb multiple sets of stairs while carrying materials weighing between 40-60 lbs.
Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsites in all types of weather.
Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid appropriate driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina.
Operator Qualification for Natural Gas – must be completed within 30 days.
