Description
Under general supervision of a Fire Department Company Officer, provides definitive care and treatment to persons in life-threatening medical situations; respond to both routine and emergency medical aids.

The PARAMEDIC responds to medical emergencies; renders aid to injured parties; operates ambulances and other related medical equipment; Administers ACLS level medicines and procedures under medical control intervening in life-threatening medical emergencies utilizing the full scope of practice as assigned to a Paramedic under CCEMSA Protocol and practice; diagnoses medical problems and performs first-aid and resuscitator functions;. participates in station, equipment and apparatus maintenance; attends training classes and drills; and other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
E xpe rience : Three months experience as a paramedic desirable.
T raining : Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
L icense / Certificate : Possess and maintain, as a condition of employment, the following :
- A current State of California Class C Driver's License
- A current National Registry PARAMEDIC certification as defined by the State of California
- Emergency Medical Services Authority (EMSA);
- A current CCEMSA PARAMEDIC card.
- A current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
- A Current ACLS certification

E nvironmental C ond itions : Exposure to varying inside temperatures, correspondent with seasonal climate outside; exposure to the hazards of emergency medical services, to smoke and hazardous material fumes, to heat from fires, seasonal elements at emergency sites; exposure to communicable diseases (HIV, HBV, HCV, tuberculosis, meningococcal meningitis, various parasites, etc.)
P hysical Conditions : Essential and marginal functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for minimal to frequent bending, turning, reaching, grasping, kneeling, standing, sitting, and walking; and moderate to heavy pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying. Physical strength and agility to lift and carry heavy objects, such as a gurney while transporting patients; lift, pull and operate gurney; climb ladders and stairs; bend, stoop, kneel, and crawl in tight spaces.
The Process

Examinations : The written exam and practicals will be following the Registry Paramedic Test and the Fresno County CCEMSA Paramedic Exam.

Selection Process : The vacancy is filled by the candidate who has best displayed the proper knowledge, education, skills and abilities during the interview process.
Post Offer Medical Examination : All prospective employees are required to pass a minimum of a medical examination and take a drug / alcohol screening and TB test administered by the City's medical provider. Some positions in the City will require more testing, depending on the position, including, but not limited to finger printing, a Department of Justice criminal screening, background investigation, and / or reference check. Candidates are cautioned not to quit or give notice to present employers until the medical examination has been completed and passed.
Appointment : Upon completion of all medical examinations, an official offer of employment will be made. Included in the offer will be salary and benefits for the position being filled.
Probationary Period : Person hired as part-time Paramedics shall serve an at-will and may be terminated without recourse for any legal reason and at any time.
This position is not eligible for benefits.
