What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Center Program Assistant position at City of Kingsport?
Performs a variety of tasks in support of the Senior Center Program for the City of Kingsport.
- Performs a variety of activities to assist Program Leaders and Senior Center Program Coordinators in planning, organizing and conducting events and activities;
- Publishes informational flyers and a variety of social media and website posts.
- Orders and shops for supplies for programs, classes, and special events.
- Reserves equipment for events, classes, and programs.
- Helps plan special events including food served or catering choices and reservations.
- Reserves space for classes, programs, and special events.
- Publishes posters, brochures, pamphlets, and fliers of activities, events, and programs; Sends information on programs, classes, and special events to digital programming.
- Serves meals to attendees, assists participants with craft projects/activities;
- Explains rules and regulations of games to participants. Monitors and facilitates tournaments both in wellness and other programming areas.
- Communicates with instructors.
- Website Maintenance.
- Recruits Volunteers.
- Opens and closes the facility.
- Fills in at front desk and performs Secretary Duties when needed.
- Distributes, collects, and summarizes evaluation surveys.
- Working with volunteers designs, creates, and applies decoration for dinners and special events.
- Collects scanners from branch sites and downloads the data into membership software.
- Operates 25 passenger bus: must obtain CDL with passenger endorsement. Drives and Chaperones senior members on education, cultural, and wellness day trips.
- Additional duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of Senior Center programs, services, and activities;
- Knowledge of basic office, phone, and computer functions;
- Knowledge of basic personal computer software and data entry;
- Knowledge of social media and creating posts;
- Skill in explaining program information;
- Skill in maintaining records and files and processing forms and checklists;
- Strong communication skills both orally and in writing;
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with participants, City staff, and the general public;
- Skill in motivating volunteer groups.
Associate’s degree required, plus experience equivalent to one year full time in customer service, general office/clerical support or closely related area; OR any equivalent combination of training and experience that would provide the necessary skills. Must be able to obtain a valid TN/VA CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) within one year of hire. Microsoft Office Suite certification and website design experience preferred.
