What are the responsibilities and job description for the Park Facilities Maintenance Technician position at City of Kinston?
- Performs a variety of skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of City parks, recreation centers, swimming pools and athletic fields.
- Performs mechanical repairs on park maintenance equipment.
- Performs preventive maintenance on and repairs heating and air conditioning equipment.
- Runs diagnostic checks, tests high and low voltage electric controls, and tests sealed refrigeration systems and electric motors.
- Changes filters on heating and air conditioning equipment, checks freon levels, checks amperage on motors and compressors, checks air temperatures, cleans drain lines and coils and oils and greases motors.
- Installs, repairs and replaces electrical wiring and devices from electric meter into various facilities.
- Runs electric cables, replaces breakers switches and receptacles, installs and repairs light fixtures.
- Installs and repairs PA systems, scoreboards, etc.
- Maintains and repairs electric machines including vacuum cleaners, buffers, etc.
- Performs skilled carpentry work in the construction, repair or alternation of doors, windows, siding, floors, structures, etc.
- Installs water and sanitary fixtures and equipment.
- Works on defects or malfunctions in plumbing systems.
- Repairs leaks by replacing valves, replacing faulty fittings or sections in line, or installing replacement fixtures.
- Inspects and maintains playground equipment to ensure proper maintenance and safety and completes repair work as necessary.
- Performs maintenance of athletic fields and park grounds.
- Marks lines in playing fields; installs and maintains scoreboards, bleachers, fencing, flag poles, retaining walls, etc.
- Participates in pool maintenance and repair.
- Repairs and makes improvements to swimming pools and water attractions.
- Performs related tasks as required.
- High school diploma or GED and moderate experience in carpentry, plumbing, electric and/or HVAC trades, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Pool operator, electrical, plumbing and HVAC licenses and certifications preferred.
- Possession of a driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina.
- Thorough knowledge of the common practices, tools, terminology and safety precautions of the building maintenance trades.
- Thorough knowledge of the use and characteristics of common building materials.
- Skill in the use of building maintenance, woodworking, plumbing, HVAC and masonry tools equipment.
- Ability to work from sketches, drawings, plans or specifications.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to estimate needed materials and time required for various jobs.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
