Division: Code Enforcement Status: Hourly
RATE $18.56 to $23.93 per hour
DUTIES
- Reviews Citizen Service Requests and investigates to seek corrective action of health code violations including yard trash, tall grass and weeds, abandoned or unlicensed automobiles, raw sewage or toxic waste, and food service inspections.
- Assists with follow-up action for non-compliant residents including preparing paperwork, pictures, court testimony, and assessment of costs charged against real estate property taxes.
- Assists in the review of construction drawings, plan and technical specifications submitted by contractors and architects to determine if they are in compliance with the International Building Codes and City ordinances
- Performs technical inspections of electrical and plumbing work to determine compliance with codes.
- Inspects installation or repair of natural gas service lines and authorizes the gas company to install meters
- Inspect manufactures home parks for compliance with city ordinances including rechecks for compliance or completion of required work
- Performs other duties as assigned.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Valid Missouri Driver's License and must be at least 18 years of age.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is performed primarily in field settings. Considerable outdoor work is required in the inspection of property. Hand eye coordination is necessary to operate equipment including phones, radio, computer, and grinder.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to talk, hear and see. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk and drive. The employee is occasionally required to sit, bend, climb, reach above shoulder height, kneel, smell and balance. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY
Knowledge of International Building Codes and City Ordinances. Knowledge in carpentry, electrical codes, building construction and plumbing trades. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with building trades.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent and possession of an associates level degree from an accredited college or technical school. In lieu of a degree, four years of experience in general construction and related fields or a combination of education and experience will be acceptable.
