GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision, responsible for operating weighing scales at the City’s Solid Waste Transfer Facility which includes positioning trucks on scales, recording weights, collecting monies, and completing necessary records. Position is also primarily responsible for a variety of administrative and clerical functions involved in coordinating the operations of the Solid Waste Transfer Facility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Operate weighing scales, collect tipping fees and maintain daily reports for cash and charge customers for all vehicles dumping refuse at the Transfer Station.
Document on a daily basis the number of vehicles using the facility, daily tonnages, trips to landfill and number of people recycling at this facility in order to prepare monthly reports.
Answer multiple telephone lines.
Receive daily receipts from Purchasing Cards etc., copy and maintain files of receipts and forward originals to administrative clerk for payment/reimbursement.
Serve as contact person in assisting Transfer Station employees with, insurance forms and general employee needs; attend various training classes/meetings as needed to stay up-to-date on issues.
Maintain contact with outside contractors for recycling pickup and deliveries.
Generate, print and mail monthly statements for charge customers; receive payments from charge customers; file paid statement in customer’s file; send monthly collection letters for charges that are 30 days overdue.

Knowledge of basic arithmetic.
Knowledge of recordkeeping.
Knowledge of safety precautions and occupational hazards in the workplace.
Basic computer skill (including keyboarding ability).
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to establish effective working relationship with fellow employees and the public.
Knowledge of filing systems and methods of data cross-reference.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position consists of primarily sedentary work, requiring the incumbent to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a lower amount of force frequently, in order to lift/carry, push/pull, or otherwise move objects. The job involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
This position uses relevant principles and procedures to solve practical problems and to deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Graduation from a standard high school or equivalent.
Must be willing to work flexible hours and Saturday’s.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience as a scale operator; experience in bookkeeping and secretarial/administrative work.
