General Statement
The Recreation Coordinator for Family Services is responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing recreational activities and programs for families, youth, adults, and seniors within the community or organization. This role ensures that family-focused programs, including youth summer and spring break camps, as well as senior programming, provide opportunities for engagement, learning, and development in a supportive, inclusive, and safe environment. The Recreation Coordinator will collaborate with other departments, community partners, and stakeholders to ensure that family services are accessible and meet the diverse needs of the families, youth, and seniors being served
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND/OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Formal Education: Four-year Bachelors' degree in Parks & Recreation Administration, Physical Education, Public Administration or the equivalent is required.
Certifications: CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications are required within 3 months of employment.
Experience: Two years progressive leadership experience in Municipal Parks and Recreation
programs or the equivalent is preferred.
Other Requirements: Valid Texas Driver's License with an acceptable driving record. Satisfactory Criminal Background Record.
Preferred: Certified Parks and Recreation Professional Certification

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally. Subject to vision constantly; standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, balancing, talking and foot controls occasionally; kneeling, crouching, crawling, bending, twisting and climbing rarely.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and coordinate recreational programs and events tailored for families, including children, parents, adults, seniors and caregivers.
- Develop programs that promote physical activity, mental wellness, educational opportunities, socialization, and family bonding.
- Ensure programs are inclusive and accessible for families of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
- Conduct regular evaluations of programs to assess effectiveness and gather feedback from participants.
- Develop and organize youth-focused programs, such as summer camps and spring break camps, that promote physical activity, personal development, socialization, and fun.
- Plan and coordinate senior programs, such as wellness activities, social events, and enrichment classes, to enhance the quality of life for older adults.
- Build and maintain relationships with families, youth, seniors, community organizations, and local service providers to promote participation in recreational programs.
- Organize and attend outreach events to recruit participants and raise awareness of available family services.
- Coordinate partnerships with schools, senior living facilities, community centers, and other relevant entities to expand program offerings.
- Supervise and train part-time or volunteer staff assisting with family, youth, and senior programs, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and program objectives.
- Assist in the development and management of program budgets, ensuring that programs stay within financial constraints.
- Secure and manage necessary resources, equipment, and supplies for recreational activities.
- Explore and apply for funding opportunities to support the expansion of family, youth, and senior programs.
- Ensure all recreational activities comply with safety standards and regulations.
- Implement risk management practices to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.
- Maintain accurate records for program participation, incidents, and evaluations.
- Ensures all work is done in a productive, safe, and effective working environment.
- Prepare weekly and monthly reports and maintain revenue and expenditures reports on assigned programs; may order supplies and equipment for programs.
- Plan, develop promote, schedule, implement, and evaluate many Parks & Recreations sponsored or co-sponsored community and special events.
- Provide assistance with community events and holiday activities and support citywide special events by serving on event committees.
- Assist the Recreation Manager with preparing, updating, and providing needed information to the citizens of the community.
- Attending staff, committee, and council meetings and give presentations as needed.
- Provide on-call assistance; respond to any aquatics emergency issues as required.
- Provide support at various departmental programs/activities.
- Contributes to team effort by performing other duties as assigned.
- Drives vehicle throughout the City and surrounding areas to make inspections,
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple programs simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with families, youth, seniors, staff, and community partners. Provides customers with information over the telephone and in person; responds to and resolve citizen's complaints concerning programs, activities, and the Parks & Recreation Department.
