The Lead Pump and Motor Maintenance Technician will be responsible for the daily and emergency preventative maintenance needs of the city, including various pumps, motors, and controls, standby generators, and related systems. Areas of work may be at any of the water and wastewater facilities throughout the city. Potential candidates should have a strong background in electrical systems troubleshooting, motor diagnostics, and general maintenance of such systems. The technician must be able to exercise sound judgment in times of crisis and effectively communicate with other city staff and elected officials as needed. The City of Kyle Water Utilities Department operations are performed 24/7, 365 days a year. This position is required to be on an on-call rotation, and the candidate must live within 45 minutes of normal travel time to Kyle. This position serves as essential personnel. Based on the needs dictated by the Water Utilities Director or designated representative, the employee may be required to return to work during inclement weather or emergency events.
- Lead and assist the Pump and Motor Tech in troubleshooting and correcting electrical and mechanical issues.
- Analyze, and repair or replace mechanical equipment (pumps, motors, submersibles, relays, breakers etc.) as necessary to complete required repairs.
- Interact with vendors and obtain quotes for goods/services when necessary.
- Assist in the installation of new utility system improvements and other water and wastewater utility related projects.
- Help develop and maintain a preventative maintenance program for all water and wastewater facilities.
- Responsible for keeping maintenance records up to date, including work orders and related forms.
- Will operate a company vehicle and be responsible for the appearance, maintenance, and organization of vehicle and tool inventory.
- Provides direction and training to less experienced staff as needed, acting as Lead role within the Division.
- Respond to emergency calls as directed.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Two (2) years’ experience in municipal wastewater treatment or collections, or water treatment or distribution, or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience which evidences a comprehensive knowledge of required job duties and expectations.
- Valid Texas State Driver’s License at hire date, and eligibility for coverage under the City of Kyle vehicle insurance provider.
- TCEQ Wastewater Collection I Certification or Class D Wastewater or Water Operator license.
- TCEQ Wastewater Collection II Certification or Class C Wastewater/Water Treatment or Class C Water Distribution License required within 2 years.
- Must live within 45 minutes of normal travel time to the Public Works facility and have reliable transportation.
- Four (4) years’ experience in municipal wastewater or collections and water treatment or distribution, or closely related field, with two (2) years in the lead role
- TCEQ Wastewater Collection II Certification or Class C Wastewater Operator license.
- TCEQ Class C Water Treatment or Distribution license.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
In depth operational knowledge, experience, and familiarity with all Public Works machinery and equipment.
- Knowledge of Microsoft programs including: Office 365, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Publisher.
- Ability to troubleshoot instrument control panelissues, good understanding of signal control power, diagnose and repair pump and motor issues.
- Ability to operate an overhead boom lift safely and responsibly.
- Ability to interpret engineered plans to assist with the design and construction of City of Kyle water and wastewater facilities.
- Works well within the maintenance team environment and is receptive of input from other team members.
- Written Communication – able to read and interpret written information such as documents of safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to draft routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
