The City of La Crosse is seeking to hire part-time parks laborer in the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department. The City of La Crosse Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department is committed to providing safe and beautiful recreational areas for the City of La Crosse residents and visitors to enjoy. The department manages 47 parks which include up to 25 reservable spaces. The parks laborer will perform general labor, maintenance, repair and routine buildings and grounds maintenance tasks, as well as perform general manual park maintenance care and other related tasks. This position will work approximately 30 hours per week. Flexible scheduling. Must have some weekend availability. Starting wage is $16.00 per hour. Position is limited term and does not acquire benefits.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operates trucks, trimmers, mowers, hand tools and other equipment used in park maintenance
- Assists with maintenance, construction and repair projects
- Performs shelter opening/closing duties such as unlocking, inspecting and cleaning
- May assist with tree removal and trimming
- May mow grass and weeds
Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid motor vehicle operator’s license required
Physical and Mental Abilities Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
- Integrity and ability to work independently
- Ability to lift at least 25 pounds
- Ability to communicate effectively with department personnel and general public
- Ability to exert moderately physically demanding work, typically involving a combination of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling
- Motivated, responsible, and have excellent time management skills
