What are the responsibilities and job description for the Utilities Laborers position at City of La Crosse?
The City of La Crosse is seeking to hire part-time utilities laborers in the Water and Wastewater Departments. It is the responsibility of the Water and Wastewater Departments to provide quality, sufficient, clean water through the water distribution system, and protect public health and the environment by providing regional wastewater treatment services. These temporary positions will work approximately 40 hours per week. Starting wage is $20.00 per hour. Positions to start 3/24/2025 and end 8/25/2025. Positions are limited term and do not acquire benefits.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- GEO locating, inspection, and measurements
- Read digital displays and measuring devices, record field data
- Open manholes, inspect wastewater structures
- Operate hand tools
Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid motor vehicle operator’s license required
Physical and Mental Abilities Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
- Ability to walk/stand majority of the day
- Ability to flip a manhole cover
- Ability to communicate effectively with department personnel and general public
- Ability to exert physically demanding work, typically involving a combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling
- Motivated, responsible, and have excellent time management skills
