Utility Maintenance Technician

City of La Marque
La Marque, TX Full Time
POSTED ON 1/12/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/12/2029

Imagine a day where your expertise keeps the City's wastewater and groundwater systems running smoothly, and every task you tackle makes a tangible difference in the community. Under general supervision, you are part of a dynamic team, performing vital maintenance, repair, and construction work to ensure the City's infrastructure is safe and reliable.

Your Day-to-Day:

You start your day by checking in with the Public Works team to plan the day's activities. Your primary focus is on maintaining and repairing the City's wastewater and groundwater systems. Whether it's clearing debris from storm drains or repairing pipes, you know your work keeps the systems functioning properly, preventing floods and ensuring clean groundwater for the community.

As a Wastewater and Groundwater Maintenance Technician, you may be tasked with operating a variety of heavy equipment. From driving a dump truck to transport materials to operating a Gradall or front-end loader, you feel confident in your ability to safely and efficiently handle the machinery.

When you're not on the job site, you're preparing daily reports on the work you've completed, ensuring accurate documentation. The reports help keep everyone informed about the progress and status of the City's critical infrastructure.

You'll be working in all weather conditions, from the scorching Texas sun to rainy afternoons. Your flexibility and readiness for on-call rotations, including weekends and after-hours, make you an invaluable part of the Public Works team. Whether there's an emergency repair in the middle of the night or routine maintenance during the week, you're there to respond.

What You Bring:

  • High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • A valid Texas driver's license and preferably a Class B CDL.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment like Gradalls, dump trucks, and bulldozers is a big plus.
  • You're knowledgeable in the operation and repair of wastewater and groundwater systems.
  • A commitment to safety and following City policies, ensuring that all work complies with safety regulations.

The Environment You'll Work In:

Outdoor work is the norm, and you'll often be exposed to varying weather conditions-rain, heat, cold-but your commitment to keeping the City's wastewater and groundwater systems functional keeps you going. You'll also work with hazardous materials, such as chemicals and raw sewage, but you'll be well-trained to handle such conditions safely.

Benefits:

As a valued employee of the City of La Marque, you'll enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • Medical Insurance: The City covers 100% of employee medical plan costs.
  • Dental Insurance: Provided at no cost for employees, with affordable options for family coverage.
  • Vision Insurance: Competitive rates for individual and family plans.
