What are the responsibilities and job description for the Park Maintenance Worker I/II/III position at City of La Mesa?
The City of La Mesa is filling two (2) vacant Park Maintenance Worker I/II/III* positions in the Public Works Department.
Park Maintenance Worker I - This is the entry level class in the Park Maintenance Worker series. This class is distinguished from the Park Maintenance Worker II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within the series. Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits a structured and established pattern, which has been established and explained before the work is started. Generally, changes in procedures or exceptions are explained in detail as they arise. Since this class is typically an entry level class, employees may have only limited or no directly related work experience. Advancement to the "II" level is based on training, experience, licenses, and satisfactory job performance.
Park Maintenance Worker II - This is the journey level class in the Park Maintenance Worker series. Employees within this class are distinguished from the Park Maintenance Worker I by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the I level, or when filled from the outside, require prior experience in the maintenance of parks and landscaped areas. This class is distinguished from the Park Maintenance Worker III in that the latter possess more autonomy while they perform specialized and skilled tasks in the maintenance, repair and construction of City parks, athletic and recreational fields, medians and roadsides. Advancement to the “III” level is based on training, experience, licenses, and satisfactory job performance.
Park Maintenance Worker III - This is the advanced journey level class in the Park Maintenance Worker series. Positions assigned to this class are distinguished from the Park Maintenance Worker II level in that they possess more autonomy while they perform specialized and skilled tasks in the maintenance, repair and construction of City parks, athletic and recreational fields, medians and roadsides. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the II level, or when filled from the outside, require prior experience in the maintenance of parks and landscape areas. The Park Maintenance Worker III level is distinguished from the Park Maintenance Lead Worker in that the Park Maintenance Worker III level does not regularly provide lead supervision to lower-level park maintenance personnel and is not directly involved in assisting a Park Maintenance Supervisor with administrative duties.
Positions in this class series are flexibly staffed. Incumbents who meet the promotional performance standards and level of proficiency required for the higher class, may be promoted without examination.
