To plan, organize, coordinate, and instruct or conduct a specialized program, activities or classes such as adult programs sports and athletics, or other recreational activities; to provide on-site supervision for program implementation; and to maintain a variety of records and reports.

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
- Plan, organize, coordinate, and instruct or conduct a specialized recreation programs, activity or class such as adult program, sports and athletics, safe routes to school or other recreational activities.
- Promote assigned recreation program, activity or class; prepare program event and facility marketing material including news releases, flyers, schedules of events, pamphlets and brochures.
- Observe necessary precautions to ensure the safety of program or class participants.
- Monitor and enforce facility permits including indoor venues, parks and sports fields; inspect assigned facilities for needed maintenance; clean facilities as needed.
- Supervise and monitor the behavior of program or class participants; enforce applicable rules and regulations; provide appropriate disciplinary measures as needed.
- Maintain records and develop reports concerning new or ongoing programs or classes and program and class effectiveness.
- Monitor program or class performance; recommend and implement modifications to systems and procedures.
- Plan, implement, schedule, and evaluate special events and activities relating to the program effort to which assigned.
- Evaluate assigned programs or class for needed equipment or supplies; recommend the purchase of necessary equipment and supplies; issue supplies and equipment to participants.
- Perform related duties as required.
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education/Training:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in area of special events, recreation, leisure studies or a related field.
Experience:
Three years of increasingly responsible experience in a specialized recreation program area.
License or Certificate:
Possession of a Standard First Aid Certificate.
Possession of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate (Infant, Child & Adult).
