ABOUT THE POSITION :
The Police Recruit Trainees will be classified as non-safety employees upon initial appointment and during academy training. Work involves full-time attendance at a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified Basic police academy to prepare for the duties of a police officer. After meeting all department, state-mandated, and academy requirements, including graduation from the police academy, the Recruit will be sworn in as a Police Officer (annual salary of $89,437 - $108,711 ). All new Police Officers serve an 18-month probationary period.
HOW TO APPLY :
STEP #1 : APPLICATION
Applications must be completed and submitted online. Candidate notifications are sent via email. Please make sure your email address is correct and check your email periodically during the application process. Candidates who pass an initial application screening will be invited to continue in the selection process.
Candidates who have earned a PELLETB T-score of 45.0 or higher within 1 year of their application date should attach a copy of their test results to their application. Results must be on the testing agency's letterhead.
STEP #2 : PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST
Qualified applicants will be invited and expected to attend the physical agility test planned for a Tentative Date on the first week of March . The physical agility test is required for all qualifying candidates. This test will be given in the morning. Later that same day, qualifying applicants will proceed to the written exam, depending on our testing capacity and each applicant's qualifications.
The physical agility test is composed of an obstacle course involving several tasks. Successful completion of each task is required to pass the agility test. You will be given two attempts to successfully complete each test. The test will be administered at Bonita High School - Glenn Davis Stadium, 3102 D Street, La Verne, CA. The tests simulate actual job tasks (climbing obstacles, moving incapacitated persons, etc.)

STEP #3 : WRITTEN EXAMINATION
The written exam is the PELLETB (POST Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery). This written exam is required for applicants who do not provide a qualifying PELLETB T-score with their application. The City of La Verne will waive the written test requirement for applicants who have attached a recent (within 12 months) T-score of at least 45.0 from a previous PELLETB exam. Results must be on the testing agency's letterhead and upload to your application profile (during the application process).
The PELLETB exam takes approximately 2.5 hours and will be held at La Verne City Hall (3660 D Street, La Verne) on the test date listed above. Qualifying applicants will receive emailed information about scheduling themselves for an upcoming session of this exam.

STEP #4 : ORAL BOARD
Candidates who successfully pass the agility test and written exam (either by providing a previous qualifying score or by earning one during the City of La Verne's test administration) will be invited by email to an oral board interview evaluation.
ELIGIBILITY LIST
Candidates must pass all four (4) of the steps listed above to be placed on the City's Eligibility List. The application screening, written examination, and physical agility test are all qualifying steps (pass / fail). The oral interview evaluation is weighted 100% and determines a candidates' placement on the eligibility list. Eligibility lists are valid for one (1) year from the date they are established unless it is exhausted sooner or extended for an additional period of time.
