Responsible for performing semi-technical to technical tasks in the building maintenance operations of all City public buildings; ensures quality service by implementing preventive maintenance measures and by thorough, efficient, and timely repairs. 

We are looking for someone with Pipe Fitter/Plumbing experience.

The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive:

  • Performs preventative maintenance and repair tasks in all areas of assigned facilities to include, but not limited to technical repairs in electrical, plumbing, mechanical, structural, roofing, carpentry, painting, etc.
  • Performs or assists maintenance of building systems as needed.
  • Clean drains, repair and replace faucets and plumbing fixtures.
  • Perform painting projects on various buildings and equipment to commercial level standards.
  • Perform maintenance and moderate repairs on roofs, walls, ceilings, floors, cabinets, windows, doors, etc.
  • Performs emergency cleaning and stocking activities on occasion.
  • Adjust, troubleshoot, and repair doors, openers, locks, and keys.
  • Operate, maintain, and repair building HVAC equipment and utilize building automation systems, including troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, plumbing, heating and refrigeration systems.
  • Monitor and perform routine inspections and maintenance on emergency building and life safety systems such as fire alarms, sprinklers, extinguishers, lighting, etc.
  • Repair, replace and maintain lamps, ballasts, lighting fixtures, electrical switches, and receptacles.
  • Monitor and maintain preventive maintenance records and logs.
  • Install, maintain, and repair a variety of floor coverings such as carpeting, tile, linoleum and wood, and roof coverings.
  • Uses sound judgement to assess conditions and determines a course of action for efficient repair.
  • Effectively communicate project plans to superintendent, and relay potential impact of planned work to facility operators.
  • Communicates clearly, including listening to understand, to provide a high level of customer service with minimal impact on facility users.
  • Assist with improvement projects, as assigned, to improve operations and facility conditions.
  • Maintains a safe environment for the public and staff. Works safely, following established safety rules. Identifies and corrects unsafe conditions.
  • Manage equipment throughout city facilities; perform preventative maintenance checks, make purchases, research to problem solve, maintain tools & equipment, and submit reports. 
  • Read and interpret sketches, diagrams, and blueprints, to understand and troubleshoot as well as to manage projects.
  • Troubleshoot, remove, and replace small pumps, and operates pump controls.
  • Respond to and resolve facility related inquiries of all kinds.
  • Be informed of and comply with applicable industry regulations, including but not limited to conveyance regulations, storm water compliance, boiler regulations, electric regulations, fire code, building code, HVAC equipment operation, etc.
  • Partner and interface with vendors and contractors to complete more advanced repairs and inspections such as elevator inspections & repairs, fire suppression system inspections & repairs, etc.
  • Partner with contract vendors to complete work, as needed
  • Maintain Facilities Division standard outcome that all completed work leaves or provides an improvement to the previous condition. 
  • Manage assigned work with a high regard for sustainable and energy efficient goals, as directed by city policy, and as provides the best outcome for the City.
  • Respond to facility related emergency situations. 
  • On a rotating schedule, work On-Call to respond to facility needs.
  • Provide a high level of customer service to both internal and external customers. 
  • Use computer to accurately manage work orders in the work order management system (WMS). 
  • Assist with furniture moving, assembling, installing, and set-ups as needed.
  • Perform related work as required and assigned.

KNOWLEDGE:  Working knowledge of office equipment, proficient computer skills working with basic programs and work order systems; first aid techniques; basic math. Apprentice (entry-level) or better knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and mechanical skills, including HVAC equipment and controls, Energy Management Systems, plumbing systems; facility systems including fire sprinkler and fire alarms; structural, electric, HVAC, plumbing, and components; including facility and equipment operations. Knowledge of industry regulations including but not limited to: conveyance regulations, storm water compliance, boiler regulations, electric regulations, fire code, building code, building automation systems. 

SKILL:  Demonstrated skill in the operation of equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job.

ABILITY:  Analyze situations quickly and objectively to determine proper courses of action to be taken; express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; operate and maintain applicable equipment; enforce safety practices and procedures; read and follow written and verbal instructions; perform heavy lifting; problem solve and interact with the public; establish and maintain effective working relationships.  

TRAINING: High school graduation or GED equivalent; plus graduation from specialized training through a trade or technical school related to maintenance and/or construction fields.

EXPERIENCEThree (3) years of experience required, or equivalent combinations of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential function of the position.  

  • Obtain and maintain a current certification in CPR, First Aid, and AED.  
  • Required to have a valid Class “R” Colorado Driver’s license and to maintain a safe driving record. 
  • Must be able to successfully pass CJIS clearance.
