Available with the Police Department:
POSITION:
Communications Technician- 911 Dispatcher
LOCATION:
Lafayette Police Department
HOURS:
12 hour shifts. 6am-6pm and 6pm-6am.
Must be available/open to work any shift- Days or nights- holidays and weekends.
SALARY:
Starting $2,056.14- $2,359.69 bi-weekly
DESCRIPTION:
Receives, processes, and prioritizes incoming 911 emergency and non-emergency calls for
police, fire, and ambulance services and dispatch appropriate responding agencies quickly and
accurately. Responsible for monitoring the arrival of First Responders and providing them with
assets and assistance requested to complete their emergency response.
REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or GED. Previous experience preferred. Must have the ability to work in a
highly stressful environment, multi-task, and make time sensitive decisions. Must have ability
to maintain confidentiality, complete an extensive training program and meet certification
requirements and trainings. Must be willing to work all shifts, including nights, weekends and
holidays.
Will require basic keyboarding skills as employee will perform a wide variety of technical duties
using computers. Working knowledge of Standard English grammar, spelling and punctuation.
Thorough knowledge of community geography and ability to use and understand maps.
Ability to accurately and professionally obtain and record information, take control of hysterical,
hostile and/or misinformed individuals and clearly and calmly respond during emergency and
stressful situations.
Ability to physically perform the duties of the position, including sitting for long periods with little
or no opportunity for breaks during shift, and above average split-ear hearing with ability to
decipher information received simultaneously.
