POSITION:
Part-time year around Safety and Security Officer
LOCATION:
Lafayette Parks Department
HOURS:
Part-time including evenings, weekends and holidays
SALARY:
Starting at $16.00 per hour
DESCRIPTION:
Serves as year around part-time safety and security officer for the Parks and Recreation
Department. Is responsible for maintaining safety and security of all City Parks. Interacts with
Park patrons to ensure public safety and the safe use of the facilities. Communicates with
department personnel to coordinate and resolve problems as needed. Secures park buildings
and facilities as required. Routinely performs safety inspections on playground equipment.
Responds to incidents and accidents within the Parks and prepares detailed reports on such.
Interacts and cooperates with local law enforcement, fire and emergency management
agencies. Performs related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma with previous safety and security experience is preferred. Certification in
First Aid, and CPR preferred. Possession of a valid driver’s license and demonstrated safe
driving record. Ability to maintain accurate records, prepare and submit detailed reports as
required. Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions, work alone and with
others in a team environment with minimum supervision. Ability to work on several tasks at the
same time and complete assignments effectively amidst frequent distractions and
interruptions.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Incumbent’s duties may involve continuous physical exertion, such as standing/walking for
long periods, working in awkward positions for long periods, safely lifting/carrying objects
weighing 25 pounds, climbing ladders, bending, reaching, crouching, kneeling, safely
pushing/pulling objects weighing more than 25 pounds. Vision and hearing are required for
driver’s and work crew’s safety. Incumbent performs duties both in and out of doors, in varying
weather conditions and is periodically exposed to excessive, noise, dirt, dust and combustible
fuels and chemicals from vehicles and equipment. Safety precautions must be used at all
times to avoid injury to self and others.
