The City of Lafayette is seeking a qualified Utility Worker for our Public Works department. This regular full-time position performs a variety of manual and semi-skilled tasks in public works construction, maintenance and repair of the city’s streets, parks, water, and wastewater facilities. This position includes frequently working outdoors, performing weekend rounds and being on-call on a rotating basis.TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: An employee in this class may perform any or all duties listed. These examples do not, however, include all tasks which the employee may be expected to perform within this class.Assists with installation of water and sewer lines, valves, tees, fire hydrant and manholes. Repairs and connects lines, installs, and inspects water meters and performs general maintenance and construction duties as outlined by the Public Works Manager.Repairs street holes with hot or cold asphalt; sidewalk and driveway approach repairs and assists in concrete placement and finish.Accurately reads water meter registers using electronic equipment.Performs maintenance functions on City storm drainage system.Performs mechanical maintenance work on machinery.Must have the ability to respond to system maintenance and or service calls outside scheduled work hours while on call or in the event of emergency.DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT: Possession of or ability to obtain Oregon Water Distribution and/or Treatment Certification, Oregon Wastewater Treatment and/or Collection Certification or related certifications.Thorough knowledge of the materials, methods and techniques used in the construction and maintenance of streets, parks, water and sewer facilities and other related projects.Valid Oregon drivers license is required.This position may be filled at a lower or higher level, depending on qualifications of applicant.
