Description
Performs intermediate technical work assisting Journeyman Line Workers in the construction, maintenance and repair of electrical facilities, controlling and maintaining inventory, locating underground utilities, maintaining residential, commercial, and industrial meters, operating computer software to program meters and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Line Foreperson - Electric.

Examples of Duties
1 . Locates, marks, and records information regarding underground utilities using locate equipment, metal detectors, and GPS.
1.1 Locates existing utilities as per requests from Gopher State One Call, using skill to provide hookups for locating.
1.2 Locates City owned underground utilities such as electric main and secondary lines, underground lighting, and other City utilities.
1.3 Maintains logs of locate requests for City services locates underground utilities.
2 . Assists and maintains an inventory of electric equipment stocked on hand.
3 . Assists Journeyman Line Workers as a ground person when available. Work may include assisting in installing transformers, junction boxes, secondary pedestals, setting poles, operating equipment and installing and maintaining street lights.
4 . Receives calls and work orders regarding meter connections and usage complaints.
4.1 Programs, maintains, and troubleshoots all residential, commercial, and industrial meters.
4.2 Operates computer software to program meters, collect meter readings and maintain AMI system including gateways and relays.
4.3 Monitors substation readings and reports unusual usage to line foreman for investigation.
5 . Works on distribution equipment rated below 600 volts.
6 . Performs other duties as assigned.
6.1 Attends work-related meetings and training sessions.
6.2 Performs maintenance on shop and utility equipment.
Typical Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications :
High school diploma or GED with coursework in electrical distribution, or related field and moderate experience in electrical distribution, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Associates / Technical degree preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Thorough knowledge of the procedures, methods, equipment and tools used in electric service, metering, lighting and related work; thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards connected with the work and the safety precautions to be taken; skill in the use and care of tools; ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions; ability to perform diagnostics on computer equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
