The Position
The City of Lake Oswego Parks & Recreation Department is seeking Aquatics Fitness Instructors for group classes, serving a wide range of fitness levels. Classes are held indoors in either our competitive pool, or our recreation pool. The ideal candidate is reliable, while bringing energy and expertise to each class.
Aquatic Fitness Instructors deliver effective workouts in a safe environment by monitoring and adjusting activities to meet each person’s ability and skill level. They are encouraging and build a positive rapport with each participant. Instructors must have the ability to demonstrate safe exercise techniques and communicate simultaneously.
HOURS: This is a year-round position, up to 20 hours per week. Building hours are typically between 5:00a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on weekdays, and 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on weekends and holidays – programming hours will vary throughout the day.

- Provide safe, fun and challenging aquatic fitness classes in deep or shallow water
- Teach in and/or out of the water depending on the class
- Create a positive environment for new and experienced participants alike
- Support and encourage all participants to reach their fitness goals
- Begin and end all classes on schedule
- Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly space for classes
- Communicate incident/injury reports to supervisor
- Offer modifications on different exercises
Education and Experience Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 1-year experience in the fitness industry (Preferred)
- CPR/AED Certification
- Specialized training and/or current certification as an Aquatics Fitness Instructor
- Detail oriented and committed to customer service
- Strong verbal communication skills
- Basic computer skills
- Available for in-person instruction/programming
