The Position
RESPONSIBLE TO: Enrichment, Fitness and Outdoor Recreation Supervisor
HOURS: Varies/Flexible
PAY RATE: $25-$28 per hour depending on experience.
GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION: The City of Lake Oswego Parks & Recreation Department is seeking Zumba and Aerobics instructors for small group classes, serving a wide range of fitness levels. Classes are held indoors. The ideal candidate is reliable, while bringing energy and expertise to each class.
Instructors deliver effective workouts in a safe environment by monitoring and adjusting programming to meet each person’s ability and skill level. They are encouraging and build a positive rapport with each participant. Instructors must have the ability to demonstrate safe exercise techniques and communicate simultaneously.
HOURS: 1-5 hours per week. Hours are typically between 8am to 7pm on weekdays, and 8am to 12pm on weekends. This is a year-round position, covering the following classes with options to add classes each season. Classes are held at the Adult Community Center, 505 G Ave and at the LO Recreation and Aquatics Center, 17225 Stafford Rd.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide safe, fun and challenging classes
- Create a positive environment for new and experienced participants
- Support and encourage all participants to reach their fitness goals
- Begin and end all classes on schedule
- Maintain a clean and orderly space for classes
- Communicate incident/injury reports to supervisor
Education and Experience Requirements
- 1-year experience in the fitness instruction (Preferred)
- CPR/AED Certification
- Specialized training and/or current certification as a Cycling Instructor
- Detail oriented and committed to customer service
- Strong verbal communication skills
- Basic computer skills
