Assistant Farmers' Market Manager

The City of Lake Oswego Parks and Recreation Department seeks a dependable, energetic, and organized professional to support the operations of its seasonal farmers’ markets. This includes the Saturday Lake Oswego Farmers’ Market, First Sunday Markets in Lake Grove and the seasonal Reunion Farmers’ Market.

• Type: On-call
• Schedule: Up to 19 hours/week (April–November), with Saturdays being essential.
• Compensation: $15–$20/hour, based on experience

This role involves 9 hours per week onsite at markets and up to 10 hours during the week assisting with market planning, operations, and programs. Occasional support for Parks and Recreation events may also be required.

• Oversee onsite market operations, ensuring smooth setup, tear-down, and logistics.
• Provide exceptional customer service to vendors, customers, volunteers, and staff.
• Implement programs such as Farm Fresh Kids, SNAP matching, and live music.
• Process payments, tokens, maintain records, and organize supplies for efficient market operations.
• Support marketing efforts, including social media content creation.
• Lead and direct volunteers, promoting teamwork and inclusivity.
• Enforce market rules and resolve conflicts professionally.
• Monitor and maintain market equipment and supplies.
• Ensure safety and compliance with all City guidelines.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated interest or experience in farmers’ markets, local food systems, or event management.
• Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms.
• Ability to work independently, problem-solve under pressure, and manage multiple tasks.
• Commitment to promoting equity, inclusivity, and diversity.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and perform active tasks like walking, bending, and carrying.
