The City of Lake Oswego Library is presenting an exciting full-time opportunity within the Circulation division. The Library is seeking an innovative, enthusiastic leader, passionate about working with our Circulation team and expanding library services to meet the diverse needs of our community, to serve as our Lead Library Assistant – Outreach Services.
Lead Library Assistant Classification:
Under the general supervision of the Library Manager of Circulation Services, incumbents perform duties of an advanced nature related to the operation of the Circulation department, organize, train, and direct the work of support services employees, and coordinate library services with employees from all divisions of the Library. Successful Lead Library Assistants can balance leadership and team support with their individual area of focus. Areas of focus in this classification include Public Services, Materials Movement, and Outreach Services.
Outreach Services:
Under the general supervision of the Library Manager of Circulation Services, incumbents will oversee the Library’s outreach services, including scheduling, planning and participating in outreach events, developing community partnerships, organizing and leading outreach meetings, and planning for the future expansion of outreach services. Incumbents will be expected to regularly drive a city-owned vehicle to deliver library materials and services throughout our service area.
This position is full-time, represented by the Lake Oswego Municipal Employees’ Association/ American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME).
Set hours for this position will be scheduled Tuesday – Saturday.

Outreach Services
- Manages a centralized outreach schedule and organizes outreach events, collections, and programs in collaboration with staff in all divisions of the library.
- Attends and participates in outreach events, including driving outreach and pop-up vehicles, providing circulation assistance during visits, and maintaining program equipment, supplies, and materials.
- Collaborates with partners and community groups to plan, promote, and execute outreach events.
- Actively participates and coordinates outreach committee work in the Library and at a LINCC level.
- In collaboration with the Library Manager, monitors outreach budget and provides training and support for outreach staff.
- Develops, prepares and presents ongoing evaluations of outreach services and other measurable data related to outreach to inform future program planning.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level including the full range of duties in lower level Library Assistant positions.
A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation with a High School diploma or G.E.D. and four years of work experience comparable to that of a Library Assistant II with the City of Lake Oswego; or an equivalent combination of training and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. College level course work in library science and/or experience delivering library outreach services is desirable.

Licensing and Other Requirements:
Positions in this classification are required to possess a valid driver’s license and ability to meet the City’s driving standards. Some positions in this classification will regularly drive a city-owned vehicle to deliver materials and services throughout our service area.
Hourly pay range: $29.94 - $38.20
Non-cash compensation includes medical, dental, vision, PERS employee pick up, and VEBA contribution
Bilingual Pay: Employees who can speak and/or write a language listed in the top five (5) most common languages spoken in the Lake Oswego School District, may be eligible for three percent (3%) bilingual pay.
