The Lake Oswego Tennis Center (LOTC) is seeking part-time Tennis Instructors to deliver dynamic, innovative tennis instruction to youth and/or adults.
 
The primary focus of this position is on-court instruction, player skill evaluation, lesson planning, and communicating with participants and parents of youth participants. Assigned classes have a maximum student-to-instructor ratio of 8:1. Assigned class hours vary by season, ranging approximately 10-20 hours per week.
  • Create a FUN, welcoming, and safe learning environment for participants. 
  • Promote health, wellness, and social connection through tennis.
  • Align with and promote the City’s core values of Respect, Excellence, Trust, and Service.
  • Collaborate with LOTC staff, Parks and Recreation staff, and others.
  • Plan classes ahead of time.
  • Arrive 15 minutes prior to class time.
  • Track attendance, remember names, and set up and take down equipment.
  • Provide participants with information on other LOTC programming, and other local tennis opportunities. 
  • Relay customer feedback and concerns to Tennis Coordinator. 
  • Report all accidents and incidents to Tennis Coordinator.
  • Report all facility issues and concerns to the Tennis Coordinator.
  • Other duties that fall within LOTC programming but are not explicitly outlined in this job description.
  • You should enjoy working with adults and/or children in a group setting.
  • Tennis instruction and/or coaching experience.
  • Racquet Sports Professionals Association (RSPA, formerly USPTA) or Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) certification is strongly preferred. 
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to motivate and encourage others.
  • Safe Play certification after hire. 
  • Minimum 4.0 USTA rating.
  • Maintain CPR/AED/First Aid certification through American Red Cross or American Heart Association, and be prepared to provide assistance in an emergency.
  • High degree of professionalism.
  • Ability to take initiative and make independent, safe, and professional decisions. 
  • Enforce and abide by policies and procedures.
 
 
About Us:
The Lake Oswego Tennis Center is a public, 4-court indoor facility that has served the local tennis community since 1974. LOTC is a municipal recreational facility, operated by the Parks and Recreation Department. LOTC is a self-sustaining enterprise and is not funded by tax dollars.
 
Tennis Instructor Position FAQs:
 
How many hours does this position work? This is a part-time position. Hours vary throughout the year, but typically range between 10-20 hours per week. 
 
Who does this position work with? The Tennis coordinator is the on-site lead, under the supervision of the Sports Manager. Instructors may collaborate with other instructors, teaching assistants, front desk staff, and volunteers, along with other City staff.
 
How much does this position pay? $25.00-$32.00 per hour, depending on experience and certification level.
 
Will I be able to teach private lessons? Yes, instructors may teach private lessons. You create your own private lesson schedule, develop your own clientele, set your own rates, reserve your own courts, and clients pay you directly for the lesson. You pay only the normal hourly rate for your court time.

  • Reimbursement for required CPR/AED/First Aid certification.

  • State of Oregon sick leave accrual.
