ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs manual labor in all horticulture related activities, specifically landscape installation and maintenance, staking, and maintaining and planting small and large trees, palms, shrubs and annual flowers, and stump removals.
Operates all-terrain excavators, front-end loaders, backhoes, skid steers, water truck, reel mowers, zero-turn mowers, all-terrain mowers, augers, trenchers, bucket truck, dump truck, truck, grapple truck and trailer, chainsaws, two-stroke engine equipment and various other pieces of equipment.
Operates trucks of various sizes and weights, performs loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, materials and supplies.
Operates excavator for excavation, digging ditches, cutting down slopes, grading and laying pipe/irrigation.
Performs pre- and post-trip inspections of truck/equipment to ensure proper working order.
Performs routine maintenance on lawn and power equipment.
Mows and maintains designated green spaces; maintains sprinkler systems and assists in the installation and minor repair of sprinkler lines and heads.
Carries out the fertilizing, top dressing, soil conditioning, watering, and the pest and weed control of landscapes and areas designated by the Horticulturist.
Assists in installing and maintaining traffic control devices.
May be required to work nights, weekends, overtime or alternate hours on occasion for the efficient operation of the division.
Performs benchmarking, logging equipment and record keeping of work completed.

Backhoe experience required.
Qualifications
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
(A) Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, and
(B) Two (2) years of experience in operating various construction and maintenance equipment and heavy trucks, or
(C) Any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
(A) Ability to learn the operation and to perform manual labor related to municipal projects.
(B) Working knowledge of traffic regulations and the practices followed for safe operation of light and heavy equipment and trucks.
(C) Working knowledge of equipment and supplies used to perform minor repairs, along with operation principles sufficient to detect any defective equipment.
(D) Working knowledge of motor equipment sufficient to detect any defective operations. Ability to service a motor vehicle and make minor running repairs.
(E) Working knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.
(F) Skilled in the proper and safe operation of tools and equipment.
(G) Ability to follow verbal and written instructions; work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule; ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
(H) Ability to communicate orally and in writing; ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions.
(I) Ability to read blue prints (i.e.: landscape and irrigation plans)
(J) Ability to meet and communicate with contractors.
(K) Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies and the public.
Salary : $40,123 - $55,536
