Description
Installs, inspects and maintains park equipment, grounds and facilities to ensure safe operating conditions for citizens. Including picking up trash, maintaining trash receptacles, cleaning and facilities and restrooms.
May operate specialized vehicles and heavy equipment related to the construction, maintenance, and repair of City parks, landscapes, and street trees, and related facilities, such as aerial lift trucks and backhoe/loader.
Inspects, maintains, repairs, and constructs developed and undeveloped parks, playgrounds, athletic fields/facilities and other related facilities and properties.
Performs required labor involved in projects as an individual or as part of a crew such as
• turf maintenance
• tree, annual, perennial, shrub installation and maintenance
• minor irrigation work
• site preparation and grading
• pruning and trimming
• mulching
• weeding
• application of fertilizers and chemicals as needed
Maintains the interior and exterior of park facilities, including making repairs.
Insures the proper maintenance of equipment/tools by cleaning and checking equipment/tools after use and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor.
Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
Responds to after-hours emergencies as needed
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
(A) Graduation from high school education or GED equivalent, and
(B) Two (2) years of experience relating to parks, landscaping, recreational facility maintenance or
(C) Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of techniques, methods and procedures used in parks, landscaping, recreational facility maintenance
- Attention to detail
(D) Skilled in the operation of tools and equipment
(E) Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time; Ability to work safely; Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public; Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions
