What are the responsibilities and job description for the Planning Assistant - Housing Programs position at City of Lakeland, Civil Service?

- Intakes and tracks applications for housing programs.
- Ensures efficient and accurate operations through regular coordination, communication, and production of detailed timelines and workflows.
- Conducts and tabulates surveys and prepares results in report and graphic form.
- Prepares correspondence, legal advertisements, meeting minutes, and other documentation as required.
- Performs and documents research activities and performs basic statistical analysis of data.
- Utilizes Microsoft programs to format and prepare final documents, including special presentation graphics.
- Works with other City of Lakeland employees, contracted employees, vendors, customers, and the public on various projects as required.
- May be required to participate and/or facilitate training to support departmental or City initiatives and requirements.
- May be required to work overtime or alternate hours as necessary for the efficient operation of the department.
- Position designated Mission Critical.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
- Participates in public planning meetings.
- Performs related work as required.
- Associate degree from an accredited college or university.
- Six months of experience in personal computer applications, including report production.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must maintain a valid telephone number.
- Knowledge of business English, grammar, spelling and arithmetic.
- Skill in using Microsoft Office and Adobe products to create and maintain reports and other documents.
- Ability to accurately compile data and conduct basic planning studies.
- Ability and willingness to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervising personnel, co-workers, other City employees, the media, civic organizations, and the public.
- Ability to compose professional correspondence and perform routine office management details without direct supervision.
- Ability to organize information and effectively present the information in tables, reports, and graphics.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires sedentary work that involves walking or standing sometimes, exerting up to ten pounds of force regularly, and routine keyboard operations.
- The job risks exposure to no significant environmental hazards.
- The job requires normal visual acuity, field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, depth perception, and texture perception.
