Work involves responsibility for participating in the development, coordination, and supervision of a comprehensive recreation program.
The starting salary for this position is between $58,362 and $72,952 annually.

- Assists in the planning, organizing, and supervising softball, basketball, and flag football.
- Maintains statistical and fiscal records.
- Hires, schedules, and pays officials.
- Prepares related publicity, news bulletins, and brochures.
- Prepares recommendations for improvement of existing programs or development of new programs.
- Inspects recreation center, equipment, and supplies; recommends maintenance, repair, and/or replacement.
- Organizes and directs special events and programs.
- Officiates as required.
- May be required to work alternate hours as necessary for the efficient operation of the department.
- Position is designated Mission Critical.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists with special events.
- Performs work as required.
- Associate degree from an accredited college or university.
- One (1) year of experience in customer service, youth activities, or community involvement.
- Coordinated, organized, developed, or promoted athletic programs or events.
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, abilities, and other competencies necessary for success in the target position may be considered.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must maintain a valid telephone number.
- May be required to maintain a First Aid/CPR certification.
- Knowledge of the rules and regulations governing various competitive athletic games such as softball, baseball, and basketball.
- Considerable knowledge of the methods and techniques of recreational planning, the philosophy and objectives of public recreation, and the psychology of special age groups.
- Knowledge of computer programs.
- Considerable knowledge of first aid methods and necessary safety precautions used in recreation work.
- Knowledge in maintaining facilities at a quality level acceptable for professional sports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other city employees, and the general public.
- Ability to mediate, troubleshoot, problem-solve, and diffuse potential difficulties.
- Ability to arrange and coordinate schedules for league and tournament play.
- Ability to train and supervise subordinates in recreation work.
- Ability to work with groups of all age levels in recreational activities and athletic contests.
- Ability to maintain discipline and solve disciplinary problems effectively.
- Ability to arrange and coordinate schedules for classes.
- Ability to maintain statistical/fiscal records and prepare reports.
- Ability to adhere to program standards and objectives outlined by superiors.
- Knowledge of the operation of various exercise equipment.
- Ability to apply customer service skills and troubleshooting.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time, exerting up to 30 pounds of force regularly, and routine keyboard operations.
- The job risks exposure to no significant environmental hazards.
- The job requires normal visual acuity, field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, sense of smell, depth perception, and texture perception.
