GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS

Perform entry level professional duties of moderate difficulty providing the opportunity for professional training in various offices throughout the City. Perform assigned duties to acquire knowledge of methods, procedures and standards required for successful performance. Specific activities vary by department. Work is performed under direct supervision.

This internship is with the Public Works Department. Interns will work a maximum of 29 hours a week. The time period for this internship can range from early February to late-April.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Data Entry

Assist in survey development

Assist with marketing distribution

Assist in field work

Assist in the promotion of Public Works Programs

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES :

Perform related work as required

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE)

Enrollment as a Junior in an accredited college or university in a major relating to Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, Environmental Science, or related field

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and other presentation software

Customer Service Skills

Skill in the use of personal computers and standard office equipment

Ability to promptly and effectively complete tasks

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, other City employees and the general public

Skill in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing, and to request clarification when needed

Able to work weekend and evening events

WORKING ENVIRONMENT / CONDITIONS :

Requires sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time, exerting up to 40 pounds of force on a recurring basis, routine keyboard operations

This job risks routine and frequent exposure to minimal environmental hazards and is 50% outside, including driving, bright / dim light, dusts / pollen, extreme heat / cold, wet / humid conditions, extreme noise levels, animals / wildlife, vibration, traffic, moving machinery, heights, fumes / noxious odors and possible exposure to significant environmental hazards; including disease / pathogens and toxic / caustic chemicals. 5% inside a climate-controlled building.

The job requires normal visual acuity, and field of vision, hearing and speaking
