General Description Of Class
Performs entry-level professional duties of moderate difficulty providing the opportunity for professional training in various offices throughout the City. Performs assigned duties to acquire knowledge of methods, procedures, and standards required for successful performance. Specific activities vary by department. Work is performed under direct supervision.
Located primarily in City Hall, this internship will assist with the management of municipal elections and public records. The position requires a commitment of up to 29 hours per week, including some early afternoon and evening hours. Job duties include the ability to commute in a city vehicle to surrounding Polk County locations. This Internship begins in early September.

Essential Functions
- Provides professional support such as tracking and charting citywide performance measures; develops tracking methods and gathering performance data.
- Performs self-reading as assigned, correcting errors as they are found.
- Conducts special studies in conjunction with a project, analyzes data, and makes recommendations based upon studies.
- Review Vote by Mail signatures.
- Interact with government agencies, candidates, and treasurers.
- Assist with various public records projects.
- Perform related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Ability to work 1-5 p.m., sometimes after 5 pm.
- Ability to commute to surrounding Polk County locations.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with supervisors, co-workers, other City employees, and the public.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn Microsoft Office Suites.
- Skill in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing and to request clarification when needed.
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Requires some sedentary work and work that involves walking or standing some of the time, exerting up to 40 pounds of force on a recurring basis, and routine keyboard operations. Requires some active work involving recurring heavy lifting of storage boxes (up to forty pounds) during accession, retrieval and disposal activities.
- The job risks exposure to no significant environmental hazards.
- The job requires normal visual acuity, field of vision, hearing, and speaking.
