The City of Lakeville is looking for enthusiastic and responsible individuals to join us as seasonal Community Service Officers! Individuals in this position will assist in monitoring for compliance of park regulations, boat launch operations, park/trail system security and safety, traffic control, as well as public relations.

In this position, you can expect to:
  • Maintain a Welcoming Environment:  You'll address maintenance concerns like broken equipment, damaged signs, and overflowing trash cans.  You'll also be responsible for removing hazards like broken glass, ensuring our parks are safe for all visitors.
  • Promote Responsible Recreation: You'll engage with park users, providing information about park rules and regulations, and addressing any violations. This includes managing access at the city beach launch, ensuring fair and safe use of our lake.
  • Animal Welfare Advocate: You'll assist with animal control duties as needed, responding to animal-related issues and ensuring the safety of both people and animals.
  • Community Liaison: You'll be a friendly and approachable presence in our parks, answering questions, providing assistance, and building positive relationships with park visitors. You'll also check in with groups using reserved picnic shelters and facilities, ensuring their events run smoothly.
  • Proactive Problem Solver: You'll be vigilant in identifying and reporting potential problems, including vandalism and suspicious activity, promptly notifying dispatch as needed.
  • Supporting Park Activities: You'll check on various park and recreation programs and activities, ensuring their smooth operation and participant safety.
  • Securing Park Facilities: For CSOs on evening duty, you'll be responsible for locking park buildings and ensuring the security of our facilities.
  • Other Related Duties:  Flexibility is key!  You'll also be involved in other related tasks as assigned.

First review of applicants will begin on March 10, 2025.
  • Animal control duties as need.
  • Maintenance problems, i.e. broken fence boards, lights burned out, etc.
  • Vandalism - also report immediately to dispatch.
  • Manage city beach launch controlling lake access.
  • Dispose of excessive trash observed, especially glass.
  • Check with groups reserving picnic shelters or buildings.
  • Speak to persons not in compliance with park regulations or City ordinances.
  • Interact with citizens in the park - ask if they have questions or problems.
  • Check on any park and recreation activities.
  • C.S.O. on duty at night will lock park buildings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of over 100 pounds of force;
  • Work regularly requires sitting and speaking or hearing, frequently requires using hands to finger, handle or feel and occasionally requires standing, walking, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions;
  • Work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception, night vision and peripheral vision;
  • Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly;
  • Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities;
  • Work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to vibration and occasionally requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment;
  • Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
  • Must be enrolled in a law enforcement program.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid Minnesota driver's license and have a good driving record.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background investigation.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills required.
  • Must be well organized and have the ability to learn park regulations and City ordinances.
