The City of Lakeville, a vibrant, growing community, is looking for a Utilities Maintenance II worker to join our team! The City manages a massive underground network of 300 miles of sewer lines and 370 miles of water mains, manages 4,500 fire hydrants and averages 7 million gallons of water through the City's water treatment facility daily.
The Utilities Maintenance II position plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance (including performing equipment operation, manual labor and general repair) of the City's essential infrastructure and ensures clean water reaches every resident and business.
Successful candidates will have a knack for problem-solving and a commitment to public service. Candidates for this position must be available for extended work days, call backs and shift schedules as required for the City's maintenance operations.
Anticipated hiring range is $31.18 - $33.56 DOQ
2025 Salary Range: $31.18 - $40.34
- Inspects and repairs wells, pumps, hydrants, valves, water mains, lift stations, manholes and other sewer and water system appurtenances.
- Performs installation and servicing of meters; installing meter equipment, removing and installing meters, pressure reducing regulators and usage recording equipment; repairing, testing, determines cause for unusual readings, and calibrating meters and regulators.
- Collection of water samples in accordance with Minnesota Department of Health regulations.
- May operate any of the following equipment:
- backhoe for repair of water and sewer lines
- rodding, jetting and vaccing machine for sewer maintenance
- sewer camera
- snowplow equipment
- Performs cleaning and maintenance of shop facilities and equipment.
- Adheres to and implements all safety rules, regulations and practices including wearing appropriate safety equipment as necessary to protect the employee, the operation and the general public.
- Promotes and maintains good relations between co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
- Provides locations of City utilities under Gopher State One Call system.
- Performs other maintenance tasks and assists other maintenance divisions, as assigned, including emergency situations, or to balance seasonal workloads and schedules.
- Performs maintenance and operational tasks related to the water treatment facility including: monitoring/ordering/filling chemicals, daily water testing, monitoring SCADA system, and building maintenance.
- Must be able to respond to call outs /emergencies within 20 minutes.
- High school degree with one to two years of additional training or education.
- Class B Minnesota driver's license. Class A Driver's License preferred.
- Class D Water Operation Certificate or Class SD Collection System Certificate, or minimum of two years of experience in construction or installation of utility systems.
- Knowledge of materials, equipment, construction methods, and maintenance of utility distribution systems, both sewer and water.
- Experience in municipal and public utilities or related work preferred.
- Must be able to respond to call outs/emergencies within 20 minutes.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

- Able to perform strenuous physical labor.
- Able to climb heights of up to 150 feet.
- Able to enter and work in storm and sanitary manholes, wet wells, lift stations, pressure reducing stations and meter pits, or other confined spaces.
- Able to lift up to 100 pounds.
- Able to perform sustained physical work in a variety of weather conditions.
- Able to wear respirators while performing job duties when required.
