Some Senior Account Clerk positions require bilingual skills (Spanish), the current vacancy does not require this skill, but it is highly desirable.This recruitment will close at 2 : 00 p.m. on Friday, February 21, 2025 or once 150 completed applications have been received, whichever comes first. Under general supervision, maintains assigned sets of financial, statistical or accounting records using computer equipment and automated financial system software. Incumbents are assigned to work in one or more functional areas within the Finance & Administrative Services Department, which include : business licensing, water utility customer service parking enforcement, cashiering, accounts payable or accounts receivable. Examples of DutiesDuties may include, but are not limited to the following : Assist customers applying for business licenses and license renewals and process the applicationsProcess parking citation paymentsRespond to in-person, e-mail, and telephone inquiries and requests from the public regarding city services and department activitiesAssist in processing applications for permits for firework stands, entertainment, film, special events and short-term rentalsCommunicate department activities to outside agenciesVerify and process cash receipts collected for paymentPost receipts to various accountsEnter and retrieve data from various city computer programs (i.e. business license, utility billing, and parking enforcement)Process water and refuse account paymentsMay assist with entering purchase orders into the computerReconcile accountsMaintain indexes, files and other recordsProcess outgoing mailUse a two-way radio to receive and send messages to personnel in the fieldPerform other duties as assigned QualificationsEducation & Experience : Graduation from high school (or equivalent) supplemented by college coursework in accounting, business administration or a related field; and three years of experience performing clerical duties and / or customer service duties in a government finance, purchasing, accounting, banking, retail / cashiering or related setting. Associates Degree is highly desirable.License : Must possess of a valid California Class C Driver's License issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles and a good driving record.Knowledge of : Basic accounting principles and procedures; cashiering practices and procedures; computer and financial software and systems; arithmetic functions; MS Office Suite (MS Word Excel and Outlook); correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation; principles of customer service.Skills & Abilities to : Perform financial and statistical records work; multitask in a fast pace environment; operate a personal computer and learn various software programs; interpret and apply city policies appropriately; communicate effectively in-person, over the telephone and via email; learn to operate a two-way radio; operate office equipment including cash register, folder, check encoder, postage machine, 10-key calculator; able to perform 10-key operation with speed and accuracy.Physical and Mental Demands : Ability to see and hear within normal ranges and dexterity to read, write, type, operate office equipment such as a computer, telephone, calculator, copier, fax machine, pencils, pens, scissors, stapler; ability to drive vehicle, be at work daily and on time, communicate orally, in writing and over the telephone; understand written and verbal directions. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds, stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time.
