The Recreation Coordinator – Programs is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs, activities, and events offered to the community. This position works as part of the Programs team within the Recreation Division, while also working closely with a variety of City staff. Specific job responsibilities include oversight of day-to-day operations including, but not limited to, program development, implementation, and evaluation, assisting with budget preparation, monitoring expenses, coordinating internal and external events, completing administrative tasks, and other duties as assigned. This position supervises numerous variable and seasonal employees and volunteers. This position works closely with the public and carries the expectation of providing exceptional customer service at all times.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Develops, implements, and evaluates a variety of recreation programs
- Collaborates on programming efforts with internal staff and external agencies
- Monitors program activities including preparing monthly and quarterly participation reports, evaluating programs and services, and ensuring that all necessary forms, paperwork, and applicable accreditation and licensing standards are upheld
- Works closely with patrons in providing and enhancing all aspects of customer service delivery, including promotion, image, and cleanliness of programming areas
- Recruits, hires, supervises, evaluates, mentors, and ensures appropriate training for all variable and seasonal employees and volunteers in program areas
- Assigns workloads, develops staffing patterns, and allocates resources as necessary
- Provides timely and effective processing of time sheets, purchasing of supplies, and other administrative tasks associated with program operations
- Inventories and maintains program area related equipment and resources
- Utilizes computerized registration system on a regular and seasonal basis to enter program file maintenance, track attendance, and run a variety of reports for programming area
- Responds to public inquiries, concerns, and requests for services in a professional, timely manner

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate proper use of a wide variety of program equipment for athletics, fitness, therapeutic recreation, etc.
- Ability to be flexible, work independently and as a team member, and to assume responsibility for task initiative and completion
- Ability to organize and monitor multiple job-related functions
- Working knowledge and aptitude in of City of Lakewood, Community Resources Department, and Recreation Division procedures
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to effectively communicate with staff and community members of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities
- Strong time management, decision making, and organizational skills
- Effective team leadership skills
Technological Skills
- Ability to use a computer, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- CivicRec experience preferred
Education and Experience
- Education: Bachelor's degree preferred with an emphasis in Recreation, Sports Management or a related field
- Experience: Two or more years of experience working with a variety of populations in recreation or a related field preferred
- Experience: One or more years’ experience supervising staff preferred
- Must be at least 21 years of age due to the possibility of supervising State Childcare licensed programs
Certification/Licenses/Specialized Training
- Specific certifications may be required based on programming area such as fitness certifications, therapeutic recreation certifications, etc.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification or the ability to obtain within six months of hire
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record
