HIRING RANGE: $18.00 - $25.00/hour
Under degree of supervision, oversees daily work progress on City Public Works construction projects and private development projects. Includes less complex and routine inspection duties, observing materials testing, surveying, and fiscal monitoring to ensure plans, specifications and City ordinances are followed. The City of Lakewood is currently recruiting variable employees for this position. A variable employee is an at-will employee who works in a seasonal or temporary capacity. Their work schedule is based on business need. This position would be a part-time non benefitted position.
Oversees routine construction projects under guidance of Construction Inspectors and Construction Coordinator.
Inspects materials and quality of work in progress, enforcing applicable city ordinances and specifications by issuance of memos, verbal warnings, and stop work orders, as necessary.
Monitors daily status of field projects which includes the following: directing the City's and developer’s contractors, coordinating projects with the affected utilities, City departments or other Governmental agencies.
Performs illicit discharge inspections and follow-up. Takes appropriate follow-up action including documenting information in a variety of ways.
Collects field information and answering citizen inquiries.
Performs inspections on soils, asphalt, concrete, storm sewer, water lines, sanitary sewers, structures, etc.
Reviews, inspects, and enforces erosion control measures on construction sites.
Inspects private property, streets, and rights-of-way to determine repair or construction needs.
Inspects public way work for conformance to city specifications.
Maintains records of labor, equipment and materials used on City projects utilizing required project forms, job diaries and the computer.
Performs detention pond inspections
Prepares reports and cost estimates.
Evaluates material test results and takes appropriate follow-up actions.
Must be able to interact with others in a positive manner.
Requires regular and prompt attendance.
Must maintain and utilize City-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when conducting activities where the employee is exposed to risks above those encountered in a traditional office setting. If injured on-the-job due to failure to utilize PPE a safety violation can be taken.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
Education
High School diploma or equivalent
Experience
Six months experience performing construction inspection duties, surveying, soils and materials testing or related education.
Licensure/Certification/Registration
Possession of valid motor vehicle operator's license and good driving record.
