DEPARTMENT: Parks Department
HOURS: Part time working an average 25 hours per week.
JOB DUTIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Works under and is accountable to the Outdoor Education & Events Coordinator. Assists the Coordinator in administrative duties involved in a curriculum-based outdoor education program and for the Special Events held by the parks department. Helps to provide quality care to the nature center live animals and their habitats. Develops and presents outdoor education programs for all ages. Supervises the nature center and outdoor education program in the absence of the Coordinator. Includes evening, weekend, and holiday work hours.
Helps develop and implement the outdoor education department’s vision and strategy.
Assists with the scheduling and organizing of the outdoor education department.
Assists with in the development, planning, and implementation of the Lancaster Parks & Recreation special & holiday events.
Assists with the day-to-day care of the live animals and displays in the nature center.
Plans, develops, and presents a variety of outdoor education programs to school groups, organizations, and the general public.
Assists with promotional programming materials, social media, and signage at various parks.
Maintains an inventory of educational and special event supplies.
Performs basic preventative maintenance on outdoor education equipment.
Assists in the managing of the use, care and storage of supplies and equipment
At Coordinator direction, provides instruction and guidance to contractual labor and volunteers.
Participates in various professional development workshops, trainings, and conferences.
Associate degree in natural resources, education, environmental science or related field OR 2 years of experience in non-formal education.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including use of technology as a tool for education and administration.
Ability to function as a team member and bring creative, flexible, and positive attitude to work
Demonstrated experience in youth development AND camp or general programming.
Canoe/Kayak Instruction or Archery Instruction, or ability to obtain needed certifications.
CPR/First Aid Certification to be obtained within 6 months of hire date.
Must pass physical examination, drug testing, driving record check and criminal background investigation.
Must possess a valid Ohio driver license and be insurable under the City’s liability policy to operator City equipment and vehicles.
