What are the responsibilities and job description for the Utility Service Coordinator position at City of Lancaster (PA)?
Testing is required.
Performs work in reading and recording water meter consumption for residential and commercial accounts and performing tasks related to water service termination and restoration.
- Follows safe practices in the performance of duties.
- Perform all water service terminations and service reconnections and assists Meter Shop when needed.
- Generates delinquent notice list in Excel and delivers delinquent notices to each property. Enters notes for each account selected and all related documents. .
- Locates City addresses by using map or GIS/GPS enabled equipment.
- Performs checker reads for weekly billing cycles and settlement reads for customer service.
- Communicates via email and cell phone with Treasury Office regarding last minute payments, emergency service restoration needs, etc.
- Communicates clearly with customers, staff and businesses. Responds to questions and concerns from the general public.
- Deals tactfully and courteously with the public and maintains composure in difficult and/or stressful situations.
- Generates spreadsheets of utility accounts for delinquent/shut off notices and payment plans on a daily basis. Summarizes findings on a monthly, quarterly and year end basis or as needed.
- Composes, types, and merges documents and correspondence for all work performed.
- Researches in the Property/Utility Systems for customer lookup, payment history, customer notes, service orders, etc.
- Works cooperatively with others on a team to share information, resolve conflict and make decisions.
- Scans Meter Shop meter service documents and files in TCM document management system.
- Reads meters, makes special checks for accuracy and records findings by using paper or computerized equipment. Enters all findings on service orders or accounts.
- Assists with meter testing and preparing reports of results.
- Download digital photos to PC and attach to customer accounts along with appropriate documentation.
- Back up for Mail Print operator when needed.
- Maintains records according to established procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Graduation from High School or completion of a GED is required.
- One (1) experience working in an office environment is required.
- Possession of a valid Pennsylvania State Driver’s License is required.

- Proven ability to maintain detailed, accurate records is required.
- Proven proficiency in knowledge, understanding and use of the Microsoft (or similar) suite of tools (Word, and Excel, Outlook or Lotus Notes) is required.
- Proven ability to interpret, verify, and accurately enter data into a computer database is required.
- Positive interpersonal skills are required.
- Proven ability to read, write, speak and comprehend written or oral instructions in English is required; proficiency in Spanish is strongly preferred.
