The City of Lansing is seeking a Sewer Supervisor to join the Operations and Maintenance Division. The ideal candidates will have four years of experience performing public works duties, including, but not limited to, construction, maintenance and repairs of sewers. The division is seeking an individual with excellent communication skills, working knowledge of traffic safety control procedures, excavation safety, general construction safety requirements, and applicable MIOSHA regulations.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
On call, as scheduled, during non-normal working hours- May require overtime or weekend work for emergencies
- Must possess and maintain a valid State of Michigan Driver’s License
- Must be confined space entry certified within 60 days of taking the position
High School Diploma or GED required, Associate Degree highly preferred- Four (4) years of experience performing public works duties such as: construction, maintenance and repairs of sewers.
- One (1) year of supervisory experience as a work group leader or supervisor where work direction was given to others in a public works environment.
Essential Position Functions Include but are not limited to:
- Supervises and coordinates activities of multiple workers engaged in a wide range of complex public works maintenance activities with a general knowledge of street, sewer, winter maintenance, surface, and operations with expertise in one of the following: street, sewer, and surface operations.
- Determines work requirements by using technical plans, City policies, material specifications and targeted response timelines
- Participates in the development of an annual work plan for budget operations and forecasting future requirements of personnel, equipment, technology, and capitol improvements to infrastructure
- Mentor, train, counsel, motivate, evaluate, and discipline subordinates
- Ensures work crews follow general safety rules and procedures and that all work activities conform to safety requirements, City policies, any all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations
- Participates in natural disaster response (i.e. tornado, flood, blizzard, wind storm, etc.)
- Knowledge of snow removal and salting operations
- Effectively uses a computer to compile and maintain records, develop reports, access electronic maps, use a server and communicate via e-mail
