The City of Lansing is seeking full-time Wastewater Maintenance Workers in one of the largest wastewater facilities in Michigan. This is a great opportunity for individuals to apply their knowledge and skillset to the maintenance and operation of the wastewater treatment plant, pump stations (electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment), and lawn, grounds, and landscaping tasks. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS & TRAINING: Â Â Â Â
- Must participate in an employer-paid Hepatitis B inoculation program.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Michigan driver's license.
- Must be able to operate standard transmission vehicles.
- Must live within a 20-mile radius of City limits; the position is subject to call-ins, shift work, and overtime.
- Must pass and maintain a DOT-mandated medical card.
- Must pass and maintain MDOT Traffic Regulator Certification.
- Must pass and maintain Confined Space Training and Certification.
- Must pass and maintain Powered Industrial Truck and Aerial Work Platform Certifications.
- Must participate in a rotating On-Call Schedule.
- Must possess and maintain a Michigan Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Â High School Diploma or GED
- Â Four (4) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of Wastewater Treatment Plant and/or Pumping Station equipment and facilities;Â
- OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Monitors field pumping and regulator activities, regularly entering stations.
- Reads wide range of instruments to ensure flow rates are at proper levels and activates additional pumps when flow rates threaten to exceed existing capacity.
- Responds to alarms at facilities, performs troubleshooting, and proposes solutions to operational problems.
- Enters manholes and other confined spaces as required in accordance with all applicable safety procedures.
- Cleans, repairs, services, and operates a wide range of Wastewater Treatment Plant and pump station equipment including but not limited to; electric motors, pumps, blowers, dehumidifiers, compressors, generators, and other machinery.
- Performs pipe-fitting tasks such as cutting and threading pipes and ensure work conforms to needed measurements.
- Operates a wide range of hand and power tools including but not limited to; drills, power saws, gasoline pumps, cutting torches, welders, grinders, and sewer cleaning jets.
- Provides training and work direction to new or temporary assigned workers.
- Drives and operates a pick-up truck for snow removal and towing generators to work sites.
- Mows grass, trims trees and brushes along with other ground keeping activities.
- Set-up compliant traffic control.
- Fabricates parts and rebuilds equipment.
