SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS & TRAINING:
- Applicants for this position must possess and maintain a valid Michigan CDL License, Group B, with Air Brakes and N Endorsement or obtain this license and endorsement within ninety (90) days of hire.
- Must participate in MDOT Drug & Alcohol program.
- Must participate in a Hepatitis B inoculation program at the City's expense.
- Must complete Industrial Truck Training and Certification.
- Must complete Confined Space Training.
- Must complete Blood Borne Pathogens Training.
- Requires overtime or shift work for emergencies and/or other work assignments
- Must participate in LEIN/Law Enforcement Information Network (Finger Printing)
- Graduation from trade school including and/or Associate’s Degree in automobile or diesel truck repair.
- Eight (8) years of experience in performing automotive and/or heavy equipment mechanical repair and maintenance, with a minimum of Five (5) years being in a progressive supervisory experience in repair facility operations with -Three (3) years’ experience in a Fleet parts room environment, operations, stocking. inventory controls and supervising. or an equivalent combination of
- State Master Heavy duty truck mechanic, ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck Mechanic and EVT (Emergency Vehicle Technician), ASE Parts Specialist Certification P1, P2 & P4 certification preferred.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Michigan CDL License, Group B, with Air Brakes and N Endorsement or obtain this license and endorsement within ninety (90) days of hire.
- Supervises the Parts Supervisor and Garage Supervisor positions and fills in when necessary.
- Supervise and inspects major repairs on overhaul and maintenance jobs of variety of city motor vehicles and equipment; troubleshoots and provides technical advice to supervisors and mechanics as needed, determines the need and feasibility of major repairs on individual pieces of motor equipment, evaluating equipment and component parts and assisting in preparing specifications and implementing new equipment designs to improve municipal service efficiency; determines when modifications and fabrication of specialized equipment should be performed in-house; oversees maintenance of exacting repair service and cost records.
- Ensures departmental productivity, cost reduction, training, and security, and ensures compliance with personnel and safety instructions, procedures, and practices in conducting shop repairs and in the handling of hazardous materials; makes recommendations regarding the establishment or revision of departmental policies and procedures.
