The City of Lansing is seeking candidates to consider for a vacant Full-Time Community Center Programmer within its Parks & Recreation Department to work at Foster Community Center. The individual selected for this position will work with experienced staff members to plan and manage assigned recreational programs with emphasis on senior programming and food & nutrition access while applying learned and innovative methods and techniques relating to philosophy and administration practices of park facilities. Work schedule includes some evening and weekend hours.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Plan, organize, and promote leisure time and recreational programs for a community center by assessing the needs of the community and consulting with the Manager of Leisure Services.
- Recruit, assign, and train TEA (temporary employee agreement) contract staff
- Coordinate and arrange programs for specified programming periods by developing information and issuing publicity releases and program statements.
- Maintains spending records for budget purposes and makes recommendations for future budgets.
- Provides activities for special interest groups and/or for special programs.
- Registers participants in recreation classes and activities using computerized registration program and balance financial transactions using this computerized registration system.
Qualifications for this position consist of:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Parks and Recreation, with an emphasis in Recreation Program Management OR a related field.
- A minimum of two (2) years of professional level recreational program supervision experience preferred but not required.
- Certified Parks & Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification is preferred.
- An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
